Point 35 Microstructures forms alliance with Semiconductor Support Services
Edinburgh, Scotland - 1 October 2009 - Point 35 Microstructures (PT35) today announced it has signed an agreement with Semiconductor Support Services (SSS) of Austin Texas, to enhance the process offering for MEMS applications based upon standard semiconductor equipment. The agreement specifically covers processes and equipment for "More than Moore" applications, which can be further served using proven and highly effective semiconductor processing equipment. Special focus will be placed on PVD, RTP and EPI applications.
Bruce Dickson, Director and General Manager at PT35, commented; "PT35 has developed a strong and growing business with most European wafer fabs and has become the industry leader in Europe for the supply of high quality full specification etch and deposition equipment. The combined capabilities of these two best-in-class companies will provide our customers with access to advanced technology adapted to meet their specific application requirements."
Using standard platforms from Applied Materials, Lam Research and Novellus Systems, full specifications for process and equipment performance will be further developed and offered to customers who are developing new products like MEMS and, who want to use proven reliable Tier 1 systems. Customers who already have an installed base of systems which can be converted for these applications will be able to benefit as well.

As a result of this initiative customers will gain cost effective extended lifetime and maximum return from their existing platforms in addition to achieving maximum productivity with proven equipment technology. This is often not the case when purchasing Tier 2 or Tier 3 equipment types, or high risk refurbished tools.
